Text and Context

What do young people write at school – and why? How do municipal authorities design information intended for young citizens? What is the function of code switching in novels? And how do health professionals talk to patients and to each other?

This is a small sample of the research questions addressed by the researchers affiliated with the research profile Text and Context. The researchers share an interest in the relation between language and the situations where it is used. Why are talking, writing or reading practices formed in a certain way in a certain context? And how does the way language is used contribute to creating a certain type of context?

The contexts study differ, but many of us researchers are interested in texts, writing and reading in school contexts, or texts used in public administration.

We, the Text and Context researchers, come from different backgrounds, e.g. corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, cognitive and ethnographic research on writing, conversation analysis and translation studies. Find out more on our individual homepages – see links in the margin to the right!
