About Åsa Wengelin

I am a professor of Swedish language and I have been at the department since 2011. My main research interests are: the written language production process, the relation between spoken and written language, literacy acquisition, language disorders and lingustic accessability (e.g. plain language and easy readers).

I am the P.I. of the research project Att tala är silver och skriva guld – eller? (Speech recognition to help children with writing difficulties produce better texts?) which is funded by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation and a member of a project group investigating Aphasia and Syntactic Processing in Written Production, funded by the Swedish Research Council.

I currently serve as the associate dean for research at the Faculty of Arts and therefore my teaching is limited at the moment. This semester I will only give occasional lectures in some of the teacher programs.

Before my appointment at the University of Gothenburg I held positions as research scholar at Florida Atlantic University and Lund University, senior lecturer in special education at Karlstad University and senior lecturer – and later guest professor – in disability studies at Halmstad  University College.
