About Stellan Petersson

I am a lecturer in Swedish language and a PhD-student in theoretical philosophy (since 2011). I received my M.A. in Theoretical philosophy, Swedish language and Literature in 2009.

Research

Dissertation

In my forthcoming dissertation in theoretical philosophy, I discuss context dependence and semantics, or more specifically, indexicalism and contextualism within the philosophy of language. In contrast to what has previously been assumed, I claim that these ideas about context dependence are empircically equivalent. This becomes evident, when the two positions are formulated precisely in terms of model-theoretic semantics. My supervisors are Dag Westerståhl and Robin Cooper.

Lexicography

Together with Emma Sköldberg, I revise and develop articles about controversial words, e.g. words associated with etnicity and gender, in the fortcoming version of the lexicon Svensk ordbok.

For more information about lexicographic projects, see svenska.gu.se/english/research/lexicology-and-lexicography

Teaching

My teaching during 2019 mostly concerns rhetorics, text production and sociolinguistics.

Supervision

I supervise academic essays at the program for communications officers and the undergraduate level in Swedish language. I am interested in supervising essays about semantics, lexicography and critical discourse analysis.
