At the Department of Swedish you can study Swedish and Swedish as a Second Language. You can also choose to focus on a specific area, such as writing or rhetoric. If you would like to know more about the languages of our neighbouring countries, we also offer Danish.

In several cases you can choose between regular daytime courses and part-time evening courses. We also give a number of web-based courses. Beside the courses listed in the course catalogue we give a variety of professional development courses on a contractual basis.

The Department of Swedish offers an array of undergraduate courses, master courses, and postgraduate courses. We have a Master’s programme in Swedish as a Second Language, admitting new students every term. Three research disciplines lead up to a Ph.D. degree: Nordic Languages, Swedish as a Second Language, and Computational Linguistics. We also have a doctoral school in Swedish as a Second Language, leading up to a licentiate degree.

If you are interested in becoming a teacher of Swedish or Swedish for Young Children we offer special courses for future teachers of Swedish together with the Department of Literature, History of Ideas, and Religion.

If you want to know more about our courses and programmes, please contact the student counsellor, take a look at the course catalogue or visit us at the Department.
